About Smitty
I am a third-generation carpenter that picked up the trade when I was around 14 years old, learning the basics from my father. I refined my skills as I got older working for a General Contractor in the suburbs of Chicago while I went to college. Living in the suburbs of Chicago, I volunteered to be part of the cleanup in Plainfield, Il where one of the largest recorded tornadoes devastated our town.
In 1991, I started my own carpentry business and over the years expanded it to a full construction/remodeling company that had up to 13 skilled tradesmen working for me.
In the early 2000’s, I organized and ran a home habitat rehab for someone less fortunate in our community with the help of the church I belonged to. I oversaw 40 plus skilled trades men/woman and 50+ volunteers from the community to rehab a house in just 3 days.
In 2013 I was part of a couple rehab projects with the TV show “Kitchen Crashers” where in a 3-day weekend we built a roof top decks and outdoor kitchens. And then again in 2015 our crew rehabbed an old Victorian home kitchen into a modern kitchen.
I continued to work in the Chicago and western suburbs until late 2019 when I relocated to North Carolina and have been working here since. Without a large crew, I do complete kitchen and bath remodels, deck builds, interior remodeling including drywall work/repairs and painting.
